Tempeh Fried with Onions

We aim to eat healthy with simple and easy-to-cook dishes. One of the healthiest ingredients that I used to cook my healthy meals is the tempeh which according to many articles is a good substitute for meat protein. I always buy my tempeh in the farmers' market (pasar tani); it is fresh and cheap.

A simple dish that I always make is Tempeh Fried with Onions. It takes less than 10 minutes to cook it.

The ingredients are:
  • 1 piece of tempeh, cut into small cubes
  • 1 medium size onion, cut into rings.
  • 1 stalk of spring onion, cut into 1/2 an inch length
  • 1 chili padi, cut into small pieces (optional)
  • Light soy sauce to taste.
Method:
  • Saute the tempeh until it is brown. Then turn them over to brown the other side. Dish out and set aside.
  • Put a tbsp of oil into the wok. Saute the onion rings till they are soft and brown.
  • Add the sauteed tempeh into the wok. Stir.
  • Add in the chili padi (optional).
  • Season with light soy sauce (according to taste).
  • Sprinkle the spring onion into the wok and give the dish a good stir.
  • Dish out the tempeh and onions onto a serving dish.
